Biography
Dr. Rajarshi Bahadur is a renowned Interventional Radiologist of Chandigarh Tricity with more than 25 years of transformative experience in diagnostic and interventional radiology. He brings exceptional expertise in advanced imaging, image-guided interventional procedures, and cutting-edge ablation therapies using the latest technology coupled with machine learning algorithms and artificial intelligence.
Dr. Bahadur completed his MBBS from Gujarat University, where he developed a strong foundation in clinical medicine and patient care. He pursued his postgraduate specialization earning his MD in Radio Diagnosis and Imaging from B.J. Medical College, Gujarat University in 2000, gaining comprehensive training in all imaging modalities and interventional radiology techniques. His quest for international expertise led him to pursue advanced training at Universitätsklinikum Freiburg (Uniklinik Freiburg), Freiburg University, Germany—one of Europe’s premier medical institutions—where he received specialized training in advanced interventional radiology procedures, cross-sectional imaging, and state-of-the-art radiological techniques, gaining European standards of radiological practice.
His distinguished career includes serving at leading hospitals of North India including Incharge of Department of Radiology at Fortis Hospital, Mohali—one of the region’s premier healthcare institutions, Chief Consultant at Atulaya Healthcare, Chandigarh, Ace Heart and Vascular Institute, Mohali, Surya Kidney Care, Mohali, and Mukat Hospital, Chandigarh over the past 25 years, demonstrating his leadership in building and managing radiology departments across multiple premier institutions.
Dr. Bahadur has performed more than 10,000 successful interventional procedures till date and has reported more than lakhs (hundreds of thousands) of CT/MRI/X-ray and ultrasound studies, making him one of the most experienced radiologists in North India. His vast experience spans the entire spectrum of diagnostic and interventional radiology across diverse patient populations and complex medical conditions.
He has established national and international teleradiology setups, reporting studies from neighbouring cities and states as well as studies from USA and Tanzania, demonstrating his expertise in remote radiology services and international collaboration in diagnostic imaging. This global teleradiology experience has exposed him to diverse pathologies and imaging protocols across different healthcare systems.
Dr. Bahadur performs advanced interventional procedures using the latest technology coupled with machine learning algorithms and artificial intelligence. This advanced technology provides complete analysis of imaging studies before performing procedures, enabling precise procedure planning, optimal approach selection, and real-time guidance. This not only reduces actual procedure time but also ensures no ambiguity in the procedures, thus making them highly successful with minimal complications and optimal patient outcomes.
He is the pioneer of CT coronary angiography (non-invasive cardiac imaging for coronary artery disease evaluation), cardiac MRI studies (comprehensive cardiac structure and function assessment), and prostate imaging with TRUS (Transrectal Ultrasound) biopsy for prostate cancer diagnosis in the region, introducing these advanced diagnostic modalities to the Tricity area and training radiologists in these specialized techniques.
Dr. Bahadur specializes in comprehensive diagnostic and interventional radiology including body imaging (CT scan for all body regions, MRI scan for all body regions, ultrasound for all body parts, X-ray procedures, contrast studies), interventional radiology procedures (CT-guided or ultrasound-guided minimally invasive procedures), guided FNAC/biopsy/core biopsy (image-guided tissue sampling for diagnosis—thyroid, liver, lung, kidney, lymph nodes, bone, soft tissue masses), guided catheter drainage procedures (PTBD – Percutaneous Transhepatic Biliary Drainage for biliary obstruction, PCN – Percutaneous Nephrostomy for kidney obstruction, chest drainage for pleural effusion/empyema, abdominal collection drainage, liver abscess drainage, pancreatic biopsy and pseudocyst drainage, psoas collection drainage, cholecystostomy drain for gallbladder drainage), guided central venous access (central jugular and femoral lines for critically ill patients, PICC lines – Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter for long-term venous access), advanced microwave ablation therapy (thyroid nodule ablation—minimally invasive treatment for benign thyroid nodules, liver tumor ablation—treatment for liver cancer and metastases, breast tumor ablation—minimally invasive breast cancer treatment, tumor ablations for various organs using latest microwave technology), and varicose veins treatment (microwave ablation for varicose veins, sclerotherapy for venous insufficiency—minimally invasive alternatives to surgical stripping).
His expertise extends to cardiac imaging (CT coronary angiography, cardiac MRI, coronary calcium scoring), neuroimaging (brain CT and MRI, spine imaging, vascular imaging), musculoskeletal imaging (joint MRI, bone tumors, sports injuries), abdominal imaging (liver, pancreas, kidney, gastrointestinal tract), pelvic imaging (prostate MRI, gynaecological imaging, bladder studies), and oncological imaging (cancer detection, staging, treatment planning, follow-up).
The integration of artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms in his practice enables automated lesion detection, quantitative analysis, predictive analytics, and precision-guided interventions, placing him at the forefront of modern radiological practice. This AI-enabled approach provides superior diagnostic accuracy, faster reporting times, and enhanced procedural success rates.
He is an active member of prestigious national organizations including Indian Medical Association (IMA), Punjab Medical Council (PMC), Gujarat Medical Council (GMC), Indian Radiological and Imaging Association (IRIA)—the premier organization for radiologists in India, and Indian Society of Vascular and Interventional Radiology (ISVIR)—the apex body for interventional radiologists in India, actively participating in continuing medical education and advancing radiological practice.
According to Dr. Bahadur, “Modern interventional radiology combines advanced imaging with minimally invasive procedures to diagnose and treat diseases without surgery, offering patients faster recovery, reduced complications, and better outcomes through precision-guided interventions enhanced by artificial intelligence.” He is technically very sound and believes in ethical practice with evidence-based radiological care for his patients. He makes sure that his patients and referring physicians are fully aware of imaging findings, procedural options, expected outcomes, and alternative approaches, and goes the extra mile in explaining complex radiological concepts in simple terms, ensuring informed decision-making from diagnostic imaging to advanced therapeutic interventions.
