Biography

Dr. Prabhjeet Kaur is a highly accomplished Senior Consultant Paediatrician and Paediatric Intensivist at Healing Hospital, Chandigarh with 15+ years of transformative experience in comprehensive paediatric care, neonatal intensive care, paediatric critical care, and paediatric emergency medicine. She brings exceptional expertise in managing critically ill newborns, children, and adolescents with complex medical conditions.

Dr. Kaur completed her MBBS from Government Medical College, Patiala, Punjab, where she developed a strong foundation in clinical medicine and patient care. She pursued her postgraduate specialization earning her DNB in Paediatrics from Chandigarh, gaining comprehensive training in all aspects of child health, growth and development, childhood diseases, and paediatric care across all age groups from newborns to adolescents.

Her quest for advanced expertise in paediatric critical care led her to complete prestigious Fellowship in Paediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care from St. Stephen’s Hospital, Delhi—one of India’s leading centres for paediatric critical care—where she received extensive hands-on training in managing critically ill neonates and children, mechanical ventilation, haemodynamic monitoring, and advanced life support. She further enhanced her skills by completing Fellowship in Paediatric Critical Care Medicine (FPCCM), Fellowship of the American College of Emergency Physicians (FACEE) in Paediatric Emergency Medicine, and Post Graduate Diploma in Paediatric Nutrition from Boston, USA, making her one of the most comprehensively trained paediatric intensivists in the region with international certifications.

Dr. Kaur has special interest and certifications in paediatric emergencies (acute respiratory distress, shock, seizures, trauma, poisoning, life-threatening conditions), paediatric counselling (developmental counselling, behavioural issues, parenting guidance), and paediatric nutrition (infant feeding, growth monitoring, nutritional disorders, obesity management, feeding difficulties).

Her expertise lies in comprehensive neonatal and paediatric care including NICU – Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (care of ill or premature born infants, respiratory distress syndrome, neonatal sepsis, birth asphyxia, hyperbilirubinaemia, neonatal seizures), PICU – Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (critically ill children, septic shock, respiratory failure, multi-organ dysfunction, post-operative care), newborn care (routine newborn examination, early newborn problems, jaundice management, feeding issues), lactation counselling (breastfeeding support, establishing lactation, common breastfeeding problems, exclusive breastfeeding promotion), paediatric nutrition (infant and child nutrition, nutritional assessment, failure to thrive, obesity management, feeding disorders), allergies and asthma (childhood asthma management, allergic rhinitis, food allergies, eczema, allergy testing and immunotherapy), paediatric and adolescent counselling (developmental milestones, behavioural issues, school problems, adolescent health concerns), general paediatrics (common childhood illnesses, infections, growth and development monitoring, vaccination), paediatric critical care (mechanical ventilation, invasive and non-invasive ventilation, haemodynamic monitoring, vasoactive drug management), paediatric neurology (seizures, developmental delays, neurological disorders), neuro critical care (status epilepticus, encephalitis, meningitis, head trauma), and all kinds of paediatric emergencies (respiratory emergencies, cardiac emergencies, neurological emergencies, trauma care, poisoning management).

Dr. Kaur is highly skilled in advanced paediatric procedures including mechanical ventilation (conventional and high-frequency ventilation, non-invasive ventilation), central line insertion, arterial line placement, lumbar puncture, endotracheal intubation, chest tube insertion, and other critical care procedures essential for managing critically ill children.

She has made significant academic contributions with research publications in prestigious journals including an original article in Neurology India on comparison of Albendazole therapy duration in single small enhancing CT lesions, case reports on sternal malformations and PHACES syndrome in National Neonatology Forum, studies on identifying hypertension using centile charts, and research on association of birth of girls with postnatal depression and exclusive breastfeeding published in BMJ Open. Her DNB thesis on Albendazole therapy was accepted by the National Board of Examinations in 2009.

She has actively participated and attended various training workshops on paediatric emergency care, paediatric ventilation, basic and advanced paediatric life support, advanced cardiac life support, paediatric trauma, and paediatric ultrasounds, continuously updating her skills with the latest advances in paediatric care. She has also conducted conferences for critical care nurses at St. Stephen’s Hospital, New Delhi, Paediatric Advanced Life Support workshops for nurses at Max Hospital, Basic Life Support workshops emphasising bystander CPR, and delivered talks in various schools across Tricity on asthma awareness, adolescent health management, and internet addiction.

Dr. Kaur is actively involved in spreading awareness and educating different target groups including adolescents, parents, and teen girls about recent advances in paediatric care and child health. She is a Life Member of the Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP), Member of Tricity Chapter of IAP, Executive Member of IAP Chandigarh, and active member of Paediatric Fundamental Critical Care Support (PFCCS) Society, actively participating in paediatric education and advancing child healthcare.
